Snoqualmie Pass reopens after overnight closure

NORTH BEND — Interstate 90 reopened over Snoqualmie Pass at 6:30 a.m. Monday after a 7-hour overnight closure for 72 miles between North Bend and Ellensburg.

The Transportation Department closed the interstate before midnight Sunday because of high winds and falling trees.

A semi-truck hit a tree 5 miles west of Easton. The Washington State Patrol says the injured driver was taken to a hospital in Ellensburg.

Troopers said there were four collisions on the east side of the pass where the roadway was covered with snow and slush. Traction tires were advised when Snoqualmie Pass reopened.

Traffic that diverted to Highway 2 over Stevens Pass found that chains were required. And the North Cascades Highway is closed by snow slides.
