KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Sporting Kansas City went through a long-term rebuilding project under new ownership complete with a rebranding of the organization and construction of a $200 million stadium.
Real Salt Lake went through a rebuilding project that took about a month — it jettisoned a bunch of veteran players in an attempt to go younger.
It’s paid off for both of the clubs. They’ll meet Saturday at Sporting Park for the MLS Cup.
Sporting KC hasn’t won the league’s championship since 2000, when it was still known as the Wizards. Real Salt Lake will be trying to add to its 2009 title.
