Frenzel wins Nordic Combined World Cup event

LILLEHAMMER, Norway (AP) — Eric Frenzel of Germany won a nordic combined event Sunday ahead of Norway’s Magnus Krog and Akito Watabe of Japan.

Frenzel was second after the ski jump portion but quickly overtook Evgeniy Klimov of Russia to surge into first place in the 10-kilometer cross-country race in Lillehammer.

The German finished in 29 minutes, 27.7 seconds, nearly a minute faster than Krog and Watabe.

Norway’s Joergen Graabak was fourth and Johannes Rydzek of Germany finished fifth.

Klimov fell back to 48th after the skiing portion, more than 4 minutes behind.
