Pepperdine holds off UC Irvine 75-69

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Stacy Davis had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Jeremy Major added 18 points as Pepperdine defeated UC Irvine 75-69 Saturday night.

The Waves (6-4) overcame a 40-30 halftime deficit, opening the second half with a 10-2 run sparked by 3-pointers from Malcolm Brooks and Major. They grabbed the lead on a Brooks three-point play and stretched it to eight on a pair of free throws from Major with 1:13 remaining.

UC Irvine (5-5) looked to rally as Alex Young and Chris McNealy each hit 3-pointers to make the score 71-69, but Major and Davis each sank two free throws in the final eight seconds to ice the game.

McNealy had 16 points for the Anteaters on 5-of-12 shooting, while Young added 12 with eight assists.

Davis and Major finished a combined 11-of-18 on field goal attempts and Brooks had 16 points for Pepperdine.
