PORTLAND — A sweeping crackdown on white supremacist gangs in eastern Multnomah County included more than 40 indictments for violent crimes and drug manufacturing.

The six-month operation announced Monday morning included a weekend of arrests in which investigators say they captured more than 20 people affiliated with six different gangs near Portland.

The operation focused on drugs and guns, but Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Steve Alexander says police also found evidence of attempted kidnapping of witnesses.

Police say they seized eight pounds of methamphetamine and $50,000 in cash, along with more than 70 guns.
