NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Rangers recalled rugged veteran forward Arron Asham from Hartford of the AHL on Monday to add much needed toughness to the struggling lineup.

To make room for Asham, the Rangers, who lost twice at home over the weekend, sent forward J.T. Miller back to Hartford.

The 35-year-old Asham had two assists and 19 penalty minutes in 12 games with Hartford this season. He played three games with the Rangers earlier this season, and recorded his 1,000th NHL penalty minute.

In two seasons with the Rangers, Asham has two goals and 64 penalty minutes in 30 regular-season games. He netted two goals in 10 playoff games with New York last season.

Miller, 20, has a goal and an assist in 17 games with the Rangers this season. He had no points in two games since being recalled from Hartford on Friday.
