Letter: Mandates aren’t a new idea

The Affordable Care Act (otherwise known as Obamacare) is not, as I understand it, a government health plan, unfortunately, but a government mandate for all to buy health insurance. This insurance will come from privately owned companies. These companies will have to follow certain rules set by the government.

This is nothing new. We already have this in place with Medicare and Medicaid. These two plans were around long before President Obama took office.

So rather than bemoaning the Affordable Care Act, let’s help to make it work.
