Between 7 and 7:20 a.m. today, the Columbian’s website incorrectly reported Evergreen Public Schools would start two hours late and that hot lunch would not be served. That information caused many confused Evergreen parents to call the district office and their children’s schools.
“We had calls at schools. We had calls in the district office. Schools were calling here to figure out what was going on,” said Gail Spolar, spokeswoman for Evergreen Public Schools.
The incorrect information was on the Columbian’s website for about 10 to 20 minutes. The online story received two comments from Evergreen district parents who said the district was running on schedule. The website article was updated immediately after receiving the corrected information.
It actually was Green Mountain School District that was two hours late. Green Mountain has approximately 150 students in grades K-8. The remote, rural school is one mile from the North Fork of the Lewis River in the northernmost part of Clark County. In contrast, Evergreen Public Schools, the largest district in Clark County, has approximately 27,000 students.
