VEVEY, Switzerland (AP) — Iranian wrestler Amir Ali Akbari has been banned for life and stripped of his world Greco-Roman heavyweight title for doping.

Wrestling’s governing body, FILA, says Ali Akbari tested positive for anabolic steroids at the world championships in September at Budapest, Hungary.

FILA says his results are disqualified and the gold medal in the 265-pound class awarded to Heiki Nabi of Estonia.

The 26-year-old Ali Akbari got a life ban because it was his second offense involving anabolic steroids. He returned to action only in July after serving a previous two-year ban.

Ali Akbari was world champion in 2010 in the 212-pound class.
