NEWPORT — Authorities in Pend Oreille County are still trying to find out who killed a Yakima teen who was shot while hunting with family members in the northeast corner of Washington.
The sheriff’s office said Thursday that all the firearms carried by the teen and members of the hunting party went through ballistics tests at a state crime laboratory and none matched the fatal bullet.
The 16-year-old, Sergio Tinajero, was separated from six relatives on Nov. 15 when he was shot in a wooded area about 13 miles west of Newport. His body was discovered by his father about 200 yards off a logging road.
Yakima Herald-Republic reports all family members all cooperated with investigators.
Deputies swept the surrounding area but have no leads on who fired the shot.
