SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Jared Brownridge scored 24 points and dished out seven assists as Santa Clara throttled NAIA La Sierra 97-61 Saturday night.

Brownridge broke Steve Nash’s freshman record for 3-pointers in a game, hitting 7 of 14 from long range.

Santa Clara (4-5) opened the game on a 19-5 run and never looked back, opening up a 39-24 halftime lead. La Sierra couldn’t find any answers after the break, and Santa Clara turned the game into a blowout. The Broncos shot 48.4 from the field.

Julian Clarke added a career-high 13 points, and Danzel Johnson pitched in 14 to go with his six rebounds.

Evan Roquemore’s six assists pushed him into second place in school history, passing Nash. He needs only two more to pass Brian Jones and become Santa Clara’s all-time assist leader.

Daveon Woods led La Sierra with 22 points while Ian Mozeleski added 12 off the bench.
