CORVALLIS, Ore. — Officials are trying to determine the origins of an ash-filled urn that was left among the donations at a Goodwill thrift store.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that employees at the Corvallis store discovered the container Thursday night and turned it over to local police. A medical examiner inspected the ashes but was unable to determine whether the urn contained human remains.

Goodwill Industries spokeswoman Dale Emanuel says the store gets so many donations that it usually takes at least several hours to process a donation. Employees aren’t sure who left the urn.

Emanuel says employees sometimes come across items that were donated by mistake.
