Fairfield edges Northeastern 64-60

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Marcus Gilbert scored 23 points, helping Fairfield to a 64-60 win over Northeastern on Sunday.

Gilbert scored 13 first-half points, and finished the game with a big 3-pointer and a pair of free throws as Fairfield (2-8) held off Northeastern (2-8).

Gilbert’s 3-pointer with 40 seconds left gave Fairfield a 60-56 lead. After Northeastern closed to within two points with 6 seconds left, Gilbert sunk two free throws to extend the lead to 64-60.

Fairfield led by as many as 14 early in the second half but the Huskies erased the deficit with a 14-0 run to tie the game with 13:40 left. After the run, neither team led by more than four points for the remainder of the game.

Maurice Barrow scored 20, including 15 in the second half to help Fairfield keep pace.

Scott Eatherton led Northeastern with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Reggie Spencer added 17.
