Letter: Too much relies on guessing game

The Columbian

In Washington state, we are suffering from climate change. This must be true because our governor proposes a big addition to our gas tax to reduce CO2. Will reducing CO2 reduce global warming? Some think it will but their data has been questioned. Are they telling you what will happen if we change the amount of CO2 in our air? Less CO2 equals less food; more CO2 equals more food. Telling the public that CO2 is polluting our air and not telling them at the same time that CO2 is a vital part of our food supply is a con game.

We could enlist grade school science classes in this battle where our government tells us CO2 is a dangerous pollutant. We need four identical one-gallon pickle jars. Mix some garden soil so it is uniform and add a pint of moist soil to each jar. Then add a uniform amount of seed to each jar. Two jars get a small amount of dry ice, which is CO2. Quickly place lids on all four jars and do not open them. Place the jars near a window. Treat them uniformly. Measure the plant height every two weeks without removing the lids. Your data may be key to fighting a con game.
