Letter: Barriers hinder sensible maneuvers

The Dec. 14 story reported, “Truck spills 3,200 gallons of gas.” Traffic engineers in their infinite wisdom have created a nightmare while trying to dictate where drivers turn. The barricade on Northeast 18th Street where this accident happened is not needed, except for the fact of trying to dictate common sense by creating eight-inch barriers in the middle of the streets of Vancouver.

How many times do we see these concrete obstacles with scrape marks on them from a tire, rim, or undercarriage of a car? How much damage have these caused already besides overturning this trailer? Will it take a death from a motorcycle rider hitting one of these barriers to wake up the engineers of the city to make them realize that what they are doing causes more harm than good.
