A woman wanted in Clark County for allegedly bilking an elderly man out of more than $40,000 has been arrested in Clackamas County, Ore., on suspicion of stealing $20,000 from the purse of a nail salon employee.

Clackamas County Sheriff deputies arrested Theresa Costello, 37, on a charge of aggravated theft in the first degree. The arrest also came with a hold on a fugitive warrant from Clark County for a 2012 charge of theft in the first degree.

The Clark County warrant stems from a case where Costello took advantage of a man who struggled with memory issues, according to a court affidavit. It said Costello used the man to pay for several purchases for herself.

When Costello did not show up for court, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

On Wednesday, police caught up to Costello after an employee at the Number One Nail Salon in Clackamas, Ore., reported $20,000 missing from her purse, which the employee said was for an engagement ring. She told police a customer had stolen the money.

According to a press release, the salon employee confronted the customer at her car, and the customer remained until police arrived.

Upon investigation, police discovered the missing money under the driver’s seat of Costello’s car. Costello then admitted to having taken the money, police said.

Costello, who lives in Milwaukie, Ore., was booked into Clackamas County Jail.
