A distracted teen collided with another car Friday night near Battle Ground, sending the drivers of both vehicles to local hospitals.
According to the Washington State Patrol report, George J. Somarakis, 16, was behind the wheel of a 2006 Chevrolet Express van. Somarakis and two other 16-year-old boys — all from the Brush Prairie area — were on state Highway 503, two miles south of Battle Ground, when Somarakis reached for an item in the vehicle. The van crossed the center line and struck another vehicle at 9:06 p.m., according to the report.
The northbound vehicle was driven by Dana M. Levanen, 37, of Yacolt; a 10-month-old infant was in the car with her.
Somarakis was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center; Levanen was taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. The nature of their injuries was not reported.
Somarakis was cited for second-degree negligent driving.
All five occupants of both cars used safety restraints.
