Monmouth closes on 17-1 run to beat Fordham 87-78

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Andrew Nicholas scored 30 points as Monmouth used a late run to beat Fordham 87-78 on Saturday.

Monmouth (6-6) trailed 77-70 with 3-1/2 minutes remaining but scored 10 straight points and finished the game on a 17-1 run.

Nicholas had eight points during that stretch while finishing 10 of 21 from the field and 6 of 13 from beyond the arc. Max DiLeo added 18 points and Deon Jones had 13 for Monmouth.

Monmouth led 26-17 in the first half but Fordham (6-4) scored 14 straight points to take the lead. Fordham led by as many as 13 in the second half.

Jon Severe had 32 points and was 8-of-13 on 3-pointers for Fordham.

Monmouth has now won five of its past seven games after starting the season 1-4.
