North Texas tops NAIA Wayland Baptist 81-77

DENTON, Texas (AP) — Alzee Williams scored 24 points and Colin Voss added a career-high 18 and grabbed 10 rebounds as North Texas topped NAIA Wayland Baptist 81-77 on Saturday.

North Texas (7-5) trailed 33-25 with 5-1/2 minutes left in the first half but closed with 10 straight points for the halftime advantage. After briefly leading in the first minute of the second, Wayland Baptist trailed the rest of the game.

A pair of missed free throws by North Texas’ Brandan Walton with 39 seconds left gave Wayland Baptist a chance to tie, but Plamen Hristov missed a 3-pointer for the Pioneers and the Mean Green hit two free throws to extend their lead.

Markus Monroe led Wayland Baptist with 18 points while Juhreece Thompson added 17.
