Biruta leads Rhode Island past New Hampshire 62-45

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Gilvydas Biruta scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Rhode Island rolled to an easy 62-45 victory Sunday over New Hampshire.

Rhode Island (7-5) snapped a three-game losing skid. Biruta scored in double figures for the sixth consecutive game. It was his second double-double of the season, and the second game scoring a season-high 17 points.

Biruta made a layup to give the Rams had a 25-5 lead with 6:18 to play in the first half. Patrick Konan answered with a 3-pointer for New Hampshire (2-9) at the 5:55 mark. The Wildcats finished the first half with seven points from the line and on 0-for-4 shooting from the floor.

Biruta scored 10 points in the second half. Biggie Minnis scored 13 points, and Xavier Munford added 11 for the Rams.

Konan led New Hampshire with nine points. Three scored eight points for the Wildcats, who have lost nine straight.
