NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Kyle Kelm had a career-high 24 points to go with 12 rebounds as he led Milwaukee over Alabama State 67-54 in the Westin Holiday Classic at Tulane on Sunday.

Milwaukee (10-4) opened the game on a 16-4 run and led 42-30 at halftime. The Panthers extended their lead to 51-34 on Kelm’s three-point play with 16:17 to play.

Matt Tiby had 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, and Austin Arians added 17 points for the Panthers, who set a program record for nonconference wins in the regular season.

Alabama State (4-5) held Milwaukee to 8-of-30 shooting in the second half but did not make them pay for it. Maurice Strong’s free throw had pulled the Hornets to within 62-54 before they went scoreless for the final 4:47.

Jamel Waters led the Hornets with 14 points and 10 assists but struggled with only 4-of-15 shooting from the floor.
