Letter: Procedures assist good governing

Our M&M boys just do not understand that they were wrong in the hiring procedure (if there was one) of Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, as director of environmental services. I am a supporter of hiring the best qualified candidates, and that can be accomplished by abiding by rules set up to avoid even the appearance of cronyism.

Clark County Commissioner Tom Mielke said, “This doesn’t sound like the Anita that I recommended for the interim (role)” when Anita Largent filed the pending lawsuit.

It doesn’t sound like that Anita because she was wronged by not being able to go through the proper process for the position. Was she just supposed to roll over and say, “Boy, it feels great to be stomped on”?

And then there is Commissioner David Madore, who compared putting Largent in charge to “taking a person who’s really good at changing spark plugs, and making her the head of the whole dealership.”

Well, the M&M boys have taken a person who isn’t even capable of changing a spark plug (or growing a tree) and put him in charge of a whole environmental department without following any procedures. They should be ashamed of themselves and the voters will speak, since I hope they still remember that this is a democracy.
