PORTLAND — When “Rocky” the dog fell off a cliff in the Oneonta Gorge this past Saturday, his owners thought he was dead.

KGW News reports Rocky’s owners searched on Saturday and Sunday. They didn’t hear Rocky barking and feared the worst after he fell over a cliff near Triple Falls.

Portland Mountain Rescue Mark Morford says that another group of hikers heard barking near the base of the falls and called authorities. Multnomah County deputies determined no person was at risk but gave Mountain Rescue permission to retrieve the dog as a training exercise.

Soon after Rocky was reunited with his owners.
