A Vancouver woman was the driver of a car that crashed into a pedestrian on the Oregon coast Thursday, according to Oregon State Police.

Patricia Rasso, 72, was driving a 2005 Nissan north on Highway 101 near Gearhart, Ore. about 2:50 p.m. Thursday when a man ran in front of her car, state police said.

Rasso tried to stop, police said, but couldn’t avoid hitting the man, identified as Jake Edward Weil, 20, of Warrenton, Ore. Weil was taken by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland where he is listed in critical condition this morning.

Police said that Weil had been trying to cross the highway to a coffee stand and that there is no evidence that Rasso is at fault.
