American U knocks off Md-Eastern Shore 71-58

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) — Kyle Kager scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead American over Maryland-Eastern Shore 71-58 on Sunday.

American (3-7) also got 15 points apiece from John Schoof and Jesse Reed. The Eagles shot 57 percent from the floor, including 8 of 17 from beyond the arc.

Maryland-Eastern Shore (2-7) was led by Hakeem Baxter with 13 points. KyRee Jones added 12 and Shane Randall 10. The Hawks went 16 of 51 from the field (31 percent) and just 2 of 15 on 3-pointers.

American used a 10-point run early in the game, behind treys by Schoof and Reed, to take control of the game en route to a 39-27 halftime lead.

The Hawks were able to cut the lead to seven on a Baxter layup with 4:50 left in the game, but got no closer down the stretch.
