No. 19 NC State prepares to go without Brown

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State coach Mark Gottfried says his 19th-ranked Wolfpack must be ready to play No. 14 Miami without starting point guard Lorenzo Brown.

The junior sprained his left ankle in Tuesday’s loss at Virginia and has been in a walking boot in the days since. Gottfried said Friday the chances were “pretty slim” that Brown will have recovered enough to play against the Atlantic Coast Conference-leading Hurricanes (16-3, 7-0), though he didn’t completely rule him out.

Brown has started 59 straight games for N.C. State (16-5, 5-3) and moved full-time to the point last year in Gottfried’s first season.

If Brown can’t go, it would likely force freshman starter Rodney Purvis to move over from the wing to the point, while freshman Tyler Lewis would see bigger minutes.
