Jackson State overcomes Alcorn State 84-71

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — Christian Williams made 15 of 16 from the free-throw line and scored 20 points to lead Jackson State to an 84-71 victory over Alcorn State on Saturday.

Jeff Stubbs had 16 points and Dundrecous Nelson added 15, Howard Kelsey 10, and Willie Readus contributed nine points and nine rebounds for the Tigers (5-14, 4-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who have won four games in a row.

LeAntwan Luckett and Anthony Nieves scored 16 each, and Ian Francis had 11 points and 15 rebounds for the Braves (8-17, 6-4), who had won two in a row and five of its past six coming in.

Jackson State shot 37.7 percent from the field (20 of 53) to Alcorn State’s 31.1 percent (23 of 74), but the Tigers made 40 of 51 free throws while Alcorn State was 22 of 37.

Leading 55-52, Jackson State made a 12-4 run to secure the victory.
