Letter: Herrera Beutler applauded

The Columbian
Published: February 2, 2013, 4:00pm

I fully support Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s, R-Camas, positions across the board. It’s high time that government at all levels realize they spend too much of other people’s money.

While delays may indeed cause a set back to the Columbia River Crossing, that would not have happened had the CRC listened years ago when the citizens of Clark County said “We don’t need light rail.”

I support her stand on gun control as well. What she has not said is that in addition to defense of our private homes and property, the Second Amendment also protects private citizen’s access to the means of resistance to rogue politicians and government when all other constitutional measures have failed. George Washington’s comments, which I shall paraphrase, indicated he wanted the citizens to have full parity with the military. In that day, since all firearms were muzzle loaded, citizens actually did have parity. Therefore, by George’s logic, today we should have machine guns and explosive ordnance as a minimum.

I firmly believe the real reason President Obama and his cronies are using Newtown, Conn., as a pathetic excuse to raise the gun control issue is because, like other politicians with delusions of their own grandeur, they fear an armed populace.
