Thompson scores 23, Rider tops Marist 64-58

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Jonathan Thompson matched his season high with 23 points as Rider escaped Marist with a 64-58 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory Sunday.

Thompson was 9-of-11 shooting for the Broncs (12-12, 7-5), including a 5-of-6 performance from 3-point range. Rider hit 7 of 17 from deep and 44.4 percent (24 of 54) overall.

Daniel Stewart added 12 points and seven rebounds and Junior Fortunat had 10 points off the bench for the Broncs.

Chavaughn Lewis scored 24 points for the Red Foxes (5-18, 2-10), and has scored at least 23 points in three straight. The sophomore also had five assists and five steals as Marist lost its fourth in a row and 12th in its past 13.

Rider’s Anthony Myles snapped a 47-47 tie with a 3-pointer with 9:48 left, sparking a 7-1 run that put the team ahead to stay.

The Broncs dominated the glass with a 37-24 rebounding advantage.
