Letter: Where is the sanity on gun safety?

The Columbian

I was struck by a quote from Capt. Mark Kelly, astronaut and husband of Gabby Giffords: “How did we get to the point where 85 percent of the children in the world that are killed with guns are killed in the United States?”

We have sensible laws regulating cars and traffic to minimize traffic deaths. We have sensible regulations to make our workplaces safe. We have codes to prevent us from building unsafe houses and buildings. We have laws to protect our money and our property. We have many laws and regulations that we readily accept and follow to make our lives safer and to protect those we love.

Where is the sanity on gun safety?
