Dr. Allen Gabriel said cancer-free parties are important

A local doctor was recently featured in an ABC News report regarding “cancer-versary” celebrations.

Dr. Allen Gabriel, of Camas, provided comments about parties that acknowledge overcoming cancer.

He said celebrations are important psychologically.

“What it does is bring friends and family together, so they can acknowledge what has happened and what they have gone through,” Gabriel said. “It brings them closer together and gives them an opportunity to reflect.”

Meanwhile, Gabriel, with the PeaceHealth Medical Group Plastic Surgery office in Vancouver, has been ranked among the top physicians in the nation based on patient reviews.

The reviews were submitted through an online education service, www.vitals.com. The website gives Patient Choice awards to physicians who have received near perfect scores as voted by their patients.

Of the nation’s 720,000 active physicians, five percent received the honor last year.

In addition to body contouring, Gabriel provides breast surgery including augmentation and reconstruction. In November, he was an invited speaker and faculty member at the European Symposium on Aesthetic Surgery of the Breast in Milan, Italy.

Gabriel is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He and his wife Cassie founded the “Pink Lemonade Project,” which provides educational retreats for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
