SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — New Syracuse coach Scott Shafer has landed a recruiting class of 19, including a pair of quarterbacks who will compete for the starting job as the Orange prepare to switch from the Big East to the Atlantic Coast Conference in July.

Despite getting the job at the 11th hour — a month ago he replaced Doug Marrone who left for the Buffalo Bills — Shafer did a commendable job. They convinced several players in the past two weeks to be part of the Orange’s recruiting class, which held its own in the rankings on recruiting services Rivals.com and Scout.com. Syracuse was ranked in the low 70s by both.

Though are no four- or five-star recruits, but quarterback Austin Wilson of Pennsylvania and Mitch Kimble of Illinois will be in the mix to replace record-setting quarterback Ryan Nassib.

The signees also include five junior college transfers.
