Reichelt leads 1st downhill training at worlds

SCHLADMING, Austria (AP) — Hannes Reichelt of Austria posted the fastest time in the first training session for the men’s downhill at the world skiing championships on Thursday.

Reichelt came down the 2-mile Planai course in 2 minutes, 2.98 seconds to lead Italians Dominik Paris and Christof Innerhofer.

Paris, who tops the World Cup downhill standings, was 0.11 behind. Innerhofer, the 2011 silver medalist, trailed Reichelt by 0.35.

Defending champion Erik Guay of Canada finished 0.91 back in fourth place. Last season’s World Cup downhill champion, Klaus Kroell, was sixth, 0.99 behind.

A second training on a shortened course is scheduled for Friday, followed by the race on Saturday.
