Gibson, Sacred Heart top Fairleigh Dickinson 77-70

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Shane Gibson hit four 3-pointers and scored 27 points as Sacred Heart downed Fairleigh Dickinson 77-70 Thursday night in a Northeast Conference contest.

Gibson was coming off an 18-point performance against Mount St. Mary’s that snapped his streak of scoring 20-plus points at eight games. The senior is averaging 25.7 points over his past 10 games and 20.1 points per game for the season. He was 8-of-17 shooting Thursday and added nine rebounds.

Steve Glowiak added 14 points and Louis Montes 13 for the Pioneers (9-13, 7-4).

Sacred Heart averaged 21.5 turnovers in its previous two games, losses to Wagner and Mount St. Mary’s, but committed 14 turnovers with 14 assists Thursday.

Melquan Bolding scored 16 points with 10 rebounds and Trevor Charles had 12 points for the Knights (7-17, 2-9).

Fairleigh Dickinson entered averaging a minus-7.6 rebound margin, but won the board battle 37-33 while losing its eighth straight.
