Stephen F. Austin stops Central Arkansas 72-36

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Taylor Smith scored 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting and Stephen F. Austin’s nation-leading defense held Central Arkansas to 13 points in the second half on the way to a 72-36 win Thursday night.

The Lumberjacks (19-2, 10-1 Southland) won their 11th home game without a loss this season. They have held opponents to fewer than 70 points in 53 consecutive games.

Desmond Haymon had 10 points and eight rebounds for Stephen F. Austin, which never trailed and led by as many as 38. The Lumberjacks have allowed 48.9 points per game, best in Division I.

Jarvis Garner led the Bears (9-12, 4-7) with 13 points. But only one other Central Arkansas player, LaQuentin Miles, finished with more than four points. Miles scored seven.

Central Arkansas shot 19 percent in the second half and made just four shots after halftime. The Bears made 31 percent of their shots in the game.
