Teacher, coach recognized by Battle Ground chamber
Thursday, February 7, 2013
Prairie High School drama teacher Claire Verity and Battle Ground High School freshman football coach Chris Higgins were honored last week at the annual Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce Recognition Banquet.
Verity was selected Teacher of the Year for 2012 but missed the event at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver. It was the second night of the two-weekend run of “Wilder, Wilder, Wilder,” a performance of three one-act plays by Thornton Wilder.
Students from Prairie High School and Battle Ground High School are staging the show at Prairie High School under Verity’s direction.
Higgins, a defensive coordinator for the Battle Ground High School freshman football team, was named coach of the year. It’s his third year coaching in the school district.
The two awards were open to teachers and coaches in the Battle Ground and Hockinson school districts, as well as private schools and youth sports organizations within the two districts.
