Fire officials put out a blaze in what they said appeared to be a homeless camp in northeast Hazel Dell early Friday morning.

Firefighters from Fire District 6 responded to a fire in a wooded area near Northeast St. Johns Road and Northeast 88th Street at 2:27 a.m. Vancouver Fire Department assisted.

A female suffered from burn injuries, but fire officials say she was uncooperative. It is unclear if she was transported to the hospital.

Deborah Stamp, who lives just north of the area, said she woke up about 2:30 to three loud booms. With the first boom, she woke up but didn’t think much of it.

“The second, I thought, what the heck?” she said. “The third one made me jump out of bed.”

From the view of her second-story house, she saw the blaze.

“It really looked like there was an enormous fir tree on fire,” she said.

The Clark County Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.
