NOVE MESTO, Czech Republic (AP) — Emil Hegle Svendsen won gold in the 10-kilometer sprint on Saturday for his second title at the biathlon world championships.
Svendsen overcame one penalty lap to cover the distance in 23 minutes, 25.1 seconds. On Thursday, Svendsen anchored Norway to victory in the mixed relay in the opening discipline of the championships.
Defending champion and overall World Cup leader Martin Fourcade of France finished 8.1 seconds behind for the silver after also missing one target.
Jakov Fak of Slovenia shot clean to finish 11.2 seconds behind Svendsen in third, while six-time Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjoerndalen of Norway was fourth, 19.9 seconds back.
The championships continue with women’s sprint later Saturday.
