BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Tyler Hood scored a season-high 19 points and Samford snapped a four-game losing streak with a 79-67 win over The Citadel Saturday night.
Hood was 8-of-11 shooting, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, for Samford (8-16, 6-5 Southern Conference). Raijon Kelly and Tim Williams each added 17 points and Clide Geffrard Jr. had 11.
Samford shot a season-best 65.9 percent (29 of 44) from the field, knocked down 7 of 17 3-pointers and drained 14 of 17 free-throw attempts.
Samford also had a season-high 20 assists with Kelly’s six leading the way.
Mike Groselle and Janell Jenkins scored 13 points apiece for The Citadel (6-17, 3-10), which dropped its second straight game. The team hit 7 of 14 from 3-point range and 24 of 27 at the foul line, but made only 48.6 percent (18 of 37) from the field and committed 19 turnovers.
