ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Michael Kessens scored 11 of his 15 points in the first 8 minutes of the second half as Longwood pulled away from Winthrop, then held on for a 62-56 win Saturday, snapping a 14-game losing streak.

The Lancers (4-21, 1-10 Big South Conference) also ended their 0-12 road skid.

Longwood trailed by eight in the first meeting between the teams since 1986, but rallied to go into halftime tied at 27.

The Lancers shot 58.3 percent in the second half (14 of 24), sparked by Kessens’ jumper and three-point play for a 32-27 lead.

The Eagles (10-13, 4-7) tied it 36-36, then got within one four times, including 56-55 with 3:04 left, but couldn’t make a basket the rest of the way against the league’s worst scoring defense (82.3 points).

David Robinson and Jeylani Dublin added 13 apiece and T.T. Carey 12 for Longwood.

Gideon Gamble’s 18 points led Winthrop.
