Letter: Who gets to define ‘Christian’?

In his Jan. 30 letter, “Return to nation’s beginnings,” Doug Moe claims we are a Christian nation. What does that mean? Is he talking about the Christian who believes that they interpret the Bible for themselves, or those who believe only authorities in their church can interpret the Bible? Is he talking about Christians who used the Bible to start abolitionism, or Christians who used the Bible to justify slavery? Is he talking about the Christianity of Martin Luther King Jr., or of the KKK? Is he talking about Christians who see homosexuality as an abomination, or those who use the Bible to fight for gay rights? Is he talking about Christians who don’t believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible, or those who do? If we were a Christian nation (and we are not) who gets to decide what that means?
