Union whittled an 18-point second-quarter deficit down to one in the final minutes before Todd Beamer of Federal Way pulled away in the Class 4A bi-district playoff game.

Beamer hit four 3-point shots in the second quarter, building a large lead that Union closed to nine by halftime. By the time there were 2 1/2 minutes to play in the final period, Union was within one.

But Beamer got a three-point play and extended the lead with free throws down the stretch.

Tyler Copp finished with a team-high 18 points for Union, making four 3-pointers. Jeff Wu, Kyle Mercer, and Micah Paulson added 10 apiece. Seaver Whalen had eight rebounds.

Union will play Olympia on Friday at Curtis High School of Tacoma in a loser-out game in the double-elimination tournament.
