Letter: Extend equality to military draft

The Columbian
Published: February 12, 2013, 4:00pm

Now that the combat exclusion ban for women has been lifted, there is no constitutional reason why women shall not be required to register for the Selective Service System. I enjoin my fellow citizens to call or mail our representative and senators to end this discriminatory practice, and to legislate the same statutory language for mandatory registration for Selective Service (the military draft) for women older than 17.

Remember, it is all about equality and fairness. Let’s provide our women the equal rights and responsibilities they deserve.
