Florida Gulf Coast beats Northern Kentucky 60-53

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) — Chase Fieler scored 19 points and Bernard Thompson added 18 as Florida Gulf Coast won its seventh straight game, beating Northern Kentucky 60-53 Thursday night to hold onto first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference

Florida Gulf Coast (19-8, 11-3) opened the game on an 8-0 run but Northern Kentucky trailed by just one at halftime, 24-23, and took its largest lead of the game, 46-41, on an Eshaunte Jones 3-pointer midway through the second half.

But Thompson answered with five straight points to tie it, Fieler made a free throw and a dunk then Thompson hit a 3-pointer with 5 minutes remaining to give the Eagles the lead for good, 52-47.

Florida Gulf Coast outshot the Norse 44 percent (23 of 52) to 39 percent (19 of 49) and improved to 7-0 when holding opponents under 60 points.

Jones paced Northern Kentucky (8-13, 6-7) with 20 points.
