Saint Louis powers past Charlotte for 76-58 win

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Cody Ellis scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers, off the bench to help Saint Louis to its seventh consecutive victory, 76-58 over Charlotte on Saturday night.

Jordair Jett added 16 points and Jake Barnett had 13 for the Billikens (19-5, 8-2 Atlantic 10), who scored 21 points off 15 Charlotte turnovers. The Saint Louis bench outscored Charlotte’s 47-17.

Pierria Henry led the 49ers (18-7, 6-5) with 15 points, and Willie Clayton had 14 points and eight rebounds. Charlotte was coming off a 71-67 victory at No. 10 Butler on Wednesday.

The 49ers stayed close through most of the first half, but the Billikens closed on a 10-2 run to lead 37-28 at halftime. Charlotte could pull no closer than five points down in the second half.

Saint Louis stayed a half-game behind VCU, which beat George Washington 84-57, for the conference lead. The teams play at Saint Louis on Tuesday.
