NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Marcus Thornton scored a career-high 32 points and Tony Shaver became William & Mary’s all-time winning coach in a 74-62 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday.

Shaver, who is in his 10th season with at William & Mary, earned his 114th win at the school. He passed Bill Chambers, who coached at the school from 1957-66.

The Tribe (11-14, 5-9 Colonial Athletic Association) never trailed thanks to Thornton, who knocked down seven 3-pointers — which are tied for the fourth-best single game total in school history. Thornton has made 77 3-pointers so far this season, placing him second on William & Mary’s all-time single-season list.

Old Dominion kept the game close, cutting the deficit to 58-56 on DeShawn Painter’s jumper with 7:51 left to play. But Thornton scored 11 of the Tribe’s next 13 points to help them pull away.

Aaron Bacote scored 20 points for the Monarchs (3-23, 1-13).
