LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Jarred Shaw had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead Utah State to a 73-69 victory against New Mexico State on Saturday night.

In a matchup of Aggies, Spencer Butterfield had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists for Utah State (18-6, 9-5 Western Athletic), which ended New Mexico State’s 12-game winning streak.

Remi Barry scored 15 points, Bandja Sy 12 and Terrel de Rouen and Daniel Mullings 11 each for New Mexico State (18-9, 12-3), which never led and failed to keep pace with Denver for second in the conference standings. New Mexico State plays at Denver in its next WAC game on March 2.

In a constantly close game, Utah State got some separation on consecutive baskets by Marcel Davis and Shaw that gave it a 60-52 lead with 8:37 left. Utah State maintained that cushion the rest of the way.

In ending New Mexico State’s winning streak, Utah State returned a favor. NMSU ended Utah State’s 13-game winning streak — then the second-longest in the nation — with a 64-51 victory on Jan. 17.
