BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — Brandon Inge arrived at spring training with the Pittsburgh Pirates with his equipment bag stuffed with gloves.

There’s a good chance the veteran infielder might end up using every last one of them. The Pirates signed the 35-year-old last week looking for some insurance behind third baseman Pedro Alvarez, but Inge most likely will serve as a utility player if he makes the 25-man roster.

Inge is recovering from surgery on his right shoulder and says he probably won’t be 100 percent until April. Inge hit .226 with 11 homers in 74 games for the surprising Oakland last year before getting hurt.

Inge joked he feels like a rookie with Pittsburgh but he sees the ingredients for the team to continue its turnaround under manager Clint Hurdle.
