BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) — Freshman Jerome Hill had 18 points and 11 rebounds, posting his first career double-double, as Gardner-Webb overcame a 12-point deficit to defeat Winthrop 65-52 Tuesday night for its fourth straight win.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs (17-11, 9-5 Big South Conference), who lost to the Eagles 61-55 on Jan. 23, trailed 30-18 with 2:42 to go until halftime.
Winthrop, playing its first game without leading scorer Derrick Henry (11.4 points per game), who suffered a season-ending knee injury Saturday against Presbyterian, still led 39-36 with 12:26 remaining.
Tyler Strange then hit a 3-pointer to tie it and spark an 8-0 run that pushed Gardner-Webb into the lead for good.
