Letter: Hang onto your wallets

The Columbian
Published: February 18, 2013, 4:00pm

I’m sure that folks have noticed how gasoline prices are rising again. Probably because of a broken widget in a gas plant in California. But did you notice in a Feb. 14 Columbian story, “Washington mayors call for gas tax hike,” that Mayor Tim Leavitt is now calling for an increase of 8 cents per gallon to “help pay for transportation needs?” He and other mayors around the state also like the idea of “helping” further by throwing in a motor vehicle excise tax increase of up to 1.5 percent, along with increasing vehicle license fees from $20 to $40.

I can hardly wait to see the Democrats’ transportation proposals coming to a theater near you next week. Hang onto your wallets, my friends. Here they come again.
